NOW SHOWING: CREATIVITY IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY
New Works by Art Saves Me grant recipients Lamar Legend, Monyee Chau, Christin Call, Lori Goldston, and Nathanael Santiago focusing on their unique experiences around COVID-19 during the Stay-At-Home order.
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!
The artists involved with this exhibit were the selected recipients of the Art Saves Me: COVID-19 Grants awarded by One Reel in the spring of 2020. The grants had not been previously in our plans, but in light of COVID-19 and the impending stay-at-home order, we felt it was imperative to do something that supported our local artists. The process — from beginning to end took just three weeks from the call for submissions to the announcement. That’s not how non-profits usually work, but we felt if was imperative to insure these artists would continue to put their talents to use in the shadow of adversity surrounding the pandemic.
We couldn’t have done it without an advisory board that was equally as gung-ho as we were to make it happen. Particularly, when we received three times the anticipated submissions! As our staff grew concerned, the assembled panel of community “outsiders” didn’t bat an eyelash. They sifted through every damn submission and were decisive in their choices. And that’s another thing that you rarely experience at a non-profit.
To every member of the advisory board, we are grateful for your contributions and delirious over the artists selected.
THANK YOU!
